I’m pretty new to yin yoga (been doing it 1–2 times a week for a couple months). Something keeps happening that I didn’t expect: sometimes I get teary or I full-on cry during long holds, especially hip stuff (like pigeon, dragon, reclined butterfly). It’s not like I’m “sad” in my head, it just comes up and then I feel kinda embarrassed even though the class is chill.
The teacher says it’s normal and that yin can “release emotions,” but I’m confused about why it happens to some people and not others. Is it just because I’m stressed? Is there a yoga explanation (like energy or chakras) or is it more like nervous system stuff? Also… should I stop if it happens, or just breathe through it?
Would love to hear real experiences, because googling “crying during yin yoga” gives a lot of influencer-y answers.
