Hi everyone 💜 I keep hearing teachers say “this practice regulates your nervous system” and I *kind of* get it, but I don’t really know what it means in real life.
My context: I’m in a pretty stressful period (work deadlines, lots of screen time, sleep isn’t great). Some days I feel wired and restless, other days I crash and feel heavy. When I do a slow class with breathing I notice I’m calmer after… but sometimes I also feel emotional or super sleepy.
So what is yoga for nervous system regulation exactly? Is it about the vagus nerve / breathing? Is it more like training the body to come out of fight-or-flight? Also: what styles are actually helpful (yin, hatha, vinyasa, hot)?
Not asking for medical advice, just trying to understand the concept and how to practice safely. Thanks 🙏
