Hi everyone, I’m new here. I keep seeing “therapeutic yoga for trauma” mentioned by studios and therapists, and I’m honestly not sure what it actually means.
I’ve done a few normal vinyasa classes, and sometimes they felt calming, but other times I felt weirdly tense or like I wanted to leave the room for no clear reason. I’m not trying to self-diagnose anything, but I’ve had some stressful stuff in the past and I’m working on it.
So: what makes therapeutic yoga for trauma different from regular yoga? Is it just gentle stretching, or is it more about breathing/meditation? And is it something you do only with a therapist, or can it be a normal group class? Any tips on what to look for (or avoid) would really help.
