I keep seeing “somatic yoga” on class schedules and reels, but I’m not sure what it actually means. Is it just slow yoga with extra breathing, or is it more like somatic therapy / nervous system stuff?
For context: I’m not super flexible, I sit at a desk all day, and I’ve been feeling kind of stiff + stressed lately. I’ve done a few vinyasa classes and felt a bit lost because everything moves fast. I’m curious if somatic yoga is more beginner-friendly and what you actually do in a session (poses? shaking? journaling?).
If anyone has tried it: how is it different from yin or restorative, and what should I expect from a first class?
