Hi everyone 🌿 I keep seeing the phrase “advanced pranayama training” in yoga teacher bios and workshop descriptions, and I’m not sure what makes it “advanced” versus just normal breathing exercises.
For context: I’ve practiced yoga on and off for a couple years (mostly vinyasa + a little yin). I can do basic stuff like belly breathing and alternate nostril breathing, but I’m not doing long breath holds or anything. I’m curious because I’ve noticed breathwork can calm me down a lot, but I also don’t want to mess with something that’s intense or unsafe.
So what does advanced pranayama training usually include (techniques, structure, goals)? Is it about longer retentions, bandhas, chakras/energy, or just being consistent? And how do you know when you’re ready? Thanks 💜
