Hi everyone, I’m pretty new to Kundalini classes but I keep hearing teachers say “advanced pranayama” and then they mention things like breath of fire, long deep breathing, bandhas, or breath retention. I’m confused about what actually makes pranayama “advanced” in Kundalini yoga. Is it about longer holds, specific ratios, locks, or working with chakras/energy?
For context: I practice 2–3 times a week, I’m not trying to force anything, but sometimes I get lightheaded when we do faster breathing. I want to understand the purpose (like what it’s supposed to do for the nervous system or kundalini energy) and also what a safe progression looks like. Any explanations in simple terms would help a lot.
