I’ve been practicing yin yoga consistently for about a year (2–3x/week). I’m comfortable holding basics like butterfly, sphinx, and dragon for a few minutes, and I use blocks/bolsters without feeling “less advanced.” Lately I keep seeing “advanced yin yoga holds” online, but it’s never clear what makes a pose advanced in yin (depth? time? shape? sensation?).
Can anyone explain what counts as advanced yin yoga holds, and what the common advanced shapes are? Also curious about typical hold times, how to know if I’m pushing too far, and any cues for staying safe with knees/hips/low back. Thanks—trying to go deeper but not wreck my body in the process.
