I’m pretty new to yoga and I’ve been doing beginner hatha classes on YouTube + one in-person class. I went in thinking it was basically stretching, but the teacher talked about breath, “energy,” and being present, and it felt more… spiritual than I expected.
I’m not super religious and I’m not sure what I’m comfortable with. I like the calm vibe and the focus, but I don’t want to feel like I’m joining something I don’t understand. So, how spiritual is hatha yoga really? Is it mainly physical exercise with some mindfulness, or is spirituality kind of built into it? Also, does it depend on the studio/teacher? I’d love honest takes from people who practice different styles.
