I keep catching myself comparing my body and skills to everyone else in yoga class, and it’s ruining the whole point for me. I’ll be feeling okay, then I look around and see someone doing a deep backbend or perfect splits and I instantly think “I don’t belong here” or “I’m so behind.”
It’s not even that anyone is judging me—my teacher is kind, the vibe is friendly—but my brain is nonstop: am I the least flexible? am I doing it wrong? do I look awkward? Sometimes I push too hard trying to “keep up,” and then I feel sore or disappointed.
Has anyone actually managed to stop comparing themselves in yoga class? Like real, practical stuff you did that helped? I want yoga to be calming, not another place I feel not-good-enough.
