Hi everyone, I’m pretty new-ish to yoga (about 3 months). I keep getting wrist pain during yoga, mostly in downward dog, plank, and anything with hands on the mat. It’s like a sharp pressure in the base of my palm and sometimes it lingers after class when I’m typing.
I’m practicing at home with YouTube and sometimes in a studio. I try to “spread my fingers” like they say, but I still feel like I’m dumping all my weight into my wrists. My shoulders also feel tight, so maybe I’m collapsing?
How do you avoid wrist pain during yoga without just skipping all the poses? Are there specific warmups, hand placement tips, or props that actually help? If this is a sign I’m doing something wrong, I’d love to know what to fix.
