I keep hearing people say yoga “changed their life” and helped their mental health, but I’m not sure what that actually means in real daily life.
I’m 29, work on a laptop all day, and lately I feel constantly tense (neck/shoulders), my sleep is kind of messy, and my mind is always racing. I wouldn’t say I’m in a crisis, but I have periods where anxiety spikes and I feel overstimulated. I tried a couple of YouTube classes and sometimes I felt calmer after… other times I just felt silly because I’m not flexible and I kept thinking “am I doing it wrong?”
So, honest question: does yoga really help mental health, like stress/anxiety/mood, or is it mostly placebo / good marketing? If it helps, what style actually makes a difference (yin, hatha, vinyasa, hot yoga)? And how long did it take you to notice anything?
(Also: I’m not looking to replace therapy or anything, just trying to understand if yoga is worth building into my routine.)
