Hi everyone. I’m asking this kind of carefully because it feels personal.
I keep hearing the idea that “trauma is stored in the body” and that yoga can help release it. I’m not trying to cure anything with a stretch, but I do notice certain poses (like hip openers or long holds) can make me feel weirdly emotional or tense, sometimes even teary. Other times I just feel numb.
Background: I’ve done on-and-off yoga classes for a couple years, mostly gentle vinyasa and some yin at home. I also have a history of anxiety and a stressful period from a few years ago that I never really processed. I’m not looking for medical advice, just real experiences and guidance: can yoga actually help with trauma stored in the body? And if yes, what kind of yoga is safest to start with so I don’t overwhelm myself?
Any tips on breath, pacing, or what to do if emotions come up during practice would be really appreciated.
